Movie Rating Blog Post #1 10/2/2022

 Steven Leon

Movie:    Spiderhead

Movie Summary:    This film is about the connection of two inmates and their discovery on finding out the truth on why the experiments were done in the state of the art penitentiary.

Rating:    50/80 points

Reasoning:    As I've learned how important camera work, sounds, lighting and set designs can truly affect a movie, I'm now more knowledgeable than I was before taking this course on rating films. For the most part, this movie wasn't horrible or dull to despise it or not re-watch it. Though, the story was only interesting for a portion of the film; and the reason I say this is because of the lack of satisfaction the movie gave when finishing it. The story felt very predictable, as in there is a psychotic man testing his patients, and the patients start to pick up on his wrong doings. In spite of the plot being basic, the cinematography in this film is what stands out the most to me. From beautiful establishing shots introducing the outside world from the prison to using rack focus multiple times to change the direction of where the viewer would be looking, I gave this film a full 20 points for its camera work throughout the movie.
